Many of you are involved with charity organizations in the form of shelters, rescues and other animal-related charities. Of course, for an organization that relies on donations and the charity of others to care for their charges, finding new ways to raise money is a primary objective.
I’ve been part of a few fund-raising events over the years. One of the more memorable was baking dog treats to be sold to raise money for a shelter. There were a group of us that got together, mixed up, rolled out and baked about a dozen different types of dog treats. The memorable part of the event was that the “baking party” took place in the kitchen of the Sarpy County Jail. It was the first (and only) time I’ve ever been “in jail”. We actually had inmates washing the dirty dishes for us. They were nice guys, all 3 of them.
Here’s another organization that has found a relatively unique and successful way to raise money for animal charities. Arm the Animals is a growing company whose inspiration is saving animals. Founded in response to a tragic event, Arm the Animals was started in an attempt to continue the rescue efforts of an animal lover. They are a clothing line. But what is unique about them is that they use part of their profits to benefit animals in need. One of the things that I particularly like about the company, besides their money-raising efforts which are directed at smaller rescues and shelters, is their commitment to being as eco-friendly as their company can afford to be.
Earlier in the week, Animal Cafe’s Mary Haight sat down for an interview with Arm the Animals’ CEO Matt Heinemeyer. They talked about how Arm the Animals got started, their future plans and how they use their company to benefit animals. Read the post and then listen to the interview. Enjoy.
