Fair Dog is a Danish organization that opposes breed-specific legislation (BSL).
Breed-specific legislation already in place in Denmark has proven ineffective as evidenced by an increase in the rate of dog bite injuries since its enactment. And Denmark is not alone. Similar laws in other communities have failed to work either. Despite this fact, Denmark’s legislators are planning to impose even stricter BSL laws by banning even more breeds, raising the total number of breeds banned to 25.
Where Will Breed-Specific Legislation (BSL) Lead Us?
To my way of thinking, the enactment of stricter BSL laws is the result of flawed logic. And it makes me wonder where it will stop. When having 25 breeds of dogs banned proves ineffective, will they then ban additional breeds? When will it stop? When all large-breed dogs are banned?
What criteria exactly is used to determine which breeds are dangerous and should be banned. After all, any dog has the capacity to bite under the right circumstances? Perhaps Denmark should ban all breeds of dogs in order to protect their citizens. Really, honestly. Where does the foolishness end?
Who Gets Hurt Most by BSL?
And let’s look at who really gets hurt by these breed-specific bans? The end result of these bans are dogs that are euthanized for no better reason than the way they look. Haven’t we moved past the idea that a book can be judged by its cover yet? Shouldn’t we be smarter than that? If we can accept the fact that people shouldn’t be judged by the color of their skin, why is it so difficult to understand that a dog cannot be judged by its breed or its physical characteristics.

Tell Denmark Breed-Specific Legislation Needs to Stop
However, the bottom line is that we, as an international community of dog lovers, need to come together to end this situation. To that end, there is a petition on Change.org to ask Denmark to end these breed bans. I have already signed it and I urge you to sign it as well. In fact, I’m asking you to go to the petition and sign it right now.

The fact that they ignore the studies indicates the legislation has nothing to do with logic and everything to do with fear and ignorance.
For those who are not afraid because they do not have one of the targeted animals, they should think again. Fear does not stop here. It starts here. As power grows it will allow more and more restrictive legislation that requires no logic or proof to push forward additional restrictions.
