Today, I have a few links to share with you and, of course, our Pet Lover’s Blog Hop is included as well. So, enjoy!
Iams/Eukanuba Pet Food Recall
First of all, I want to make sure all of you are aware of the expanded pet food recall issued by Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Iams and Eukanuba brand dog and cat foods. This recall started out including two lots of Iam’s Veterinary Feline Renal Diet, but has now been expanded to include the entire line of Iams’ veterinary prescription diets as well as several types of Eukanuba diets. Both dog and cat foods are included in this recall.

Pet Lover’s Blog Hop Spotlight: When Pet Food Switching is a Problem
Today, our spotlight falls on Edie Jarolim’s blog, Will My Dog Hate Me. Edie’s blog is witty and fun but behind the jokes, she covers a number of important topics. One of her latest topics centered on the proper way to change a dog’s diet and whether rotating foods is healthier for the average dog. Her original post posed the question “Why should you switch your dog’s diet gradually?”
This question sparked quite a controversy and led to a second post, entitled “When Pet Food Switching is a Problem” which expands on the question of why switching a dog’s diet gradually is recommended and whether a varied diet might be healthier for our dogs.
Edie very kindly gave me the chance to explain why sudden changes in diet are recommended, so you will find me quoted in this article. In addition, the subject of varying or even rotating the diet of our dogs is discussed by Anthony Holloway, CEO of K9Cuisine.com.
In all honesty, I have mixed feelings about recommending a rotational diet or diet of a varied nature for all dogs. I think some dogs thrive on a varied diet. However, there are other dogs that do not seem to do so well. I think choosing the proper diet depends on your dog. If you are feeding a varied diet or rotating your dog’s diet and he is doing well on this dietary regimen, I would continue it. As I noted in the article, a varied diet is likely to make it easier for you to change your dog’s diet, should you ever need to do so. However, if you’re feeding your dog a varied diet or using a rotational type of diet and find that your dog frequently suffers loose stools, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain or lack of appetite, you may want to rethink your dietary plan. In the end, I believe it all depends on what works best for your dog.
So, that’s it for today. But make sure you take a look at the Pet Lover’s Blog Hop and check out some of the great blogs listed there. You won’t regret it.
