Greyhounds, Ohio Dog Auctions and Birth Control for Pets

This week, our Pet Lover’s Blog Hop spotlight falls on the Pet News and Views blog. This blog covers a variety of pet issues, including pet health topics, news, information about celebrities and other people who work with animals, even a section on jobs that involve working with pets.

The latest entry in the Pet News and Views blog is a news entry that covers several topics:

  • Birth Control for Dogs and Cats informs readers of a grant issued to Ralph Meyer, assistant professor of Developmental Biology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, to continue his research to find a “non-surgical, safe, and effective sterilization method for animals that is cost-effective and widely available”. Dr. Meyers hope is “to help put a stop to our pet over-population problem”. If successful, this research could provide a break-through means of controlling pet populations without the need for surgical intervention.
  • Ban Ohio Dog Auctions discusses a “citizens-backed, ballot initiative called the Ohio Dog Auctions Act to help improve the lives of dogs in commercial breeding operations in Ohio” by “making it illegal for anyone to auction or raffle a dog in Ohio”. The initiative would also ban entry into the state of dogs offered for sale or trade that were obtained by raffle or auction in another location.
  • Good New for Greyhounds covers the signing into law of a bill prohibiting greyhound racing in the state of New Hampshire. This is a victory for those pushing for an end to greyhound racing in the United States.

This week, there is also a second website that I would like to spotlight. Cult of the Greyhound features beautiful photos of greyhounds. It’s definitely worth a look.

And, as always, I encourage readers to check out some of the other great blogs in our Pet Lover’s Blog Hop. Though there is not room here to spotlight each and every one of them, there are many blogs in this list worthy of notice. Be sure to check them out.
